She went as Alice and he went as a Jedi
and book week went well.
Despite a rotten chest infection that had kept the girl from school all week she managed to be there for a few hours
and it was sweet seeing the both of them together.
So different and yet so much the same.
I bought their costumes this year.
Making them just seemed too…
but he loved being like all of the other boys.
Such is the life of an ageing child.
The small girl wanted nothing more than to be the common sensed Alice, who learnt about herself through fantasy.
I thought about the symbolism of that
but what it all came down to, was that Alice had long straight hair and I’d agreed to letting the sisters work their magic on her unruly mop of curls.
When they had finished I thought;
she doesn’t look like Ivy any more -
which is really what portraying a character is all about -
losing yourself for a while.
