With her dancing shoes on.

A few months ago, Ivy was offered a wish by The Starlight Foundation.

She thought for a very long time.

We had conversations with the whole family about what would be the ideal wish.

Through all of the illness and trials,

we would bring it up,

give her something to plan for,

to hope for.

We ruled things out because of Ivy’s propensity to pick up every weird and wonderful bug known to man,

we tossed up all of her ideas

and we all decided that ultimately it needed to be something that Ivy could remember and hold on to during the harder days

and then we left it for her to decide.

Which she did.

The thing about wishes is that they cannot be guaranteed

and so we filled in the paperwork, without making promises.

Ivy’s wish volunteer warned us that it may not be possible -

it was something different,

a little left of field

but still

it was her wish and so we put it out there.

While we were in the hospital this last fortnight, Ivy’s wish co ordinator phoned to let us know that it may all be a possibility

and then yesterday

she phoned us again to say that Ivy’s wish would become a reality.

This year.

On December the 1st.

Her wish?

To dance, in the Opera House, with The Australian Ballet.

Such a big wish for a little girl

but we’re told that The Australian Ballet are very willing and very happy to help Ivy have her wish.

It’s so very Ivy – whose first response was to ask if the dancers would be on pointe

and if they would be wearing beautiful tutus

and if she would wear one too.

We have no more details yet

just a date and the formal nod

but it’s something that the girl can hold on to.

Her wish, come true.

Oh that is the most WONDERFUL thing I’ve heard in a while!!! I’m so thrilled for her, for you too! My only regret is that I am supposed to leave the day before, how I wish I could be there. Not sure if I can change my ticket now, but know that I am absolutely over the moon for this wish to be granted.

YAY!!!!!! Australia seems so very far away now……….I’d give anything to be in the audience of that Opera House on December 1st! I’m THRILLED for all of you, but, of course, especially Miss Ivy! I’d expect nothing less than a spectacular wish from a spectacular little girl! I’ll be rooting her on from North Carolina! (Seriously. I just put it in my iphone calendar!)
