Happy Birthday Bookends
When I was about fourteen, I remember telling my Mum that one day I was going to have twins.
She told me that in our family, twins had a habit of skipping a generation
and that my daughters would be more likely to birth twins than I.
I guess I broke that tradition.
Today, I am celebrating the birthdays of my first set of squidgy bookends,
their 14th to be precise.
Bookends
because when we were a young family and our bed was full with only little girls
the natural order went;
twin,Mummy, Lily, Daddy, twin
and so bookends they became.

Happy birthday, my gorgeous, growing too fast, bookends.
We’ve grown up together.
You’ve taught me how to be a good Mum and I’ve taught you about life.
I’ll never forget the first time I held you in my arms, the way I felt, the love, mixed in with heady responsibility.
I’ll never forget all of your firsts because they are my firsts too.
Happy Birthday, bookends.
You mean the world.
