Six.

I am a mother today -
of a six year old boy,
of my forth earth child,
my first born son.
I am a mother today
of a boy
who I don’t know
but who
I celebrate
as though he’s been living here
with me forever and a day.
I can only imagine
how life would be,
how he would be,
how I would be too -
celebrating that in between age of six.
Not five.
Five is so big.
Not ten,
Ten is the cusp of grown up
but six.
That curious time of dirt and insects and discovery.
Girl germs and super heroes,
lego and matchbox cars
all shaped and moulded into
long, gangly legs, freckles and hair that has its own mind,
lost front teeth and learning to whistle.
I can only dream of him and wonder
and so today,
when I became a mother
of a six year old boy,
my forth earth child,
my first born son
I’ll celebrate what I do know and what I can only imagine.
Happy birthday, Will.
