Just maybe…
Yesterday, I did my first baby shoot.
A sweet little baby, all of five months old, going by the name of Amelia.
It was hot and she was tired and as I was clicking away I had grave doubts that the photos would turn out or that her Mum would be happy with them.
Essentially, I felt that I would never be able to pull this photography stuff off, despite buying a new piece of the internet to set up shop (more on this soon, I promise)
and despite booking myself into a course, that would literally seal the deal, I panicked.
How could a midwife, come stay at home mother ever think that she could move into the world of photography?
Ahhh, self doubt.
It’s like having a little piece of my father with me forever…
“You’ll never amount to anything, Tiffany!”
Anyhow, I took the photos and we said our goodbyes, dinner, bath and bed ensued for the brood.
When I sat down to look at what I had taken
I surprised myself
and after I had processed them
I thought
you know, Dad, I might just be able to pull this off.
I might just be photographer material after all
and for the first time, in a long time
that voice of self doubt, my father’s voice
couldn’t argue.

They are lovely, and yes of course you can make it. Keep going!
they are fantastic tiff , you can do what ever you set your mind to do . and if in doubt call me and i will tell you just how fantastic you are .
i will have to book a photo shoot one day for the family .
love alisa
Yay & HOORAY! It’s about time! These shots are exceptional and I am so excited & happy that you have FINALLY come to the realisation of just what photographic talent you have. Irrespective of your father’s hurtful & irresponsible comments, I never could understand why you sold yourself so short on any of the many artistic talents you excel in. Stand up & be counted, girl, your many talents are outstanding. xoxo
She is gorgeous but most of all you did a wonderful job! of course you can do it…of course you can.

Fabulous pictures of your lovely girls. Very artfully done
Amazing, as always.
Are you kidding? I read your blog from the other side of the world entirely because I love the artistry of your photography. And sometimes I try out ideas that your photos have suggested.
Just so you know.
just gorgeous!
You have talent coming out your wazoo… don’t ever forget that!
They are stunning photos, Tiff. Just beautiful.
When David mentioned the other day that you’re going on a photographic conference I felt so happy for you – I thought, finally she’s taking it further, LOL! You are so incredibly talented. Get out there, make people happy and let them pay you for it.
You know if that voice of self doubt ever tries to be heard again – we’re all here to shout it down because you were born to do this Tiff. You are inspiring.
I agree with your gorgeous mum.Of course you are awesome!
They’re beautiful Tiff; it’s about time you set up shop with this talent of yours.
Oh! I’ve always adored your portraits! I’m so booking in my three rugrats with you – if I can get them in the same place at the same time
You’re so brave to take the leap into a new career, good on you for sharing your amazing talent.
Tiff, I do wedding photography (amongst other types of photography) as a sideline and I wish I had half your talent! I am dying to know how you get your photos to look the way they do! You SO have it in you to take your photography wherever you want to.
Positively precious!
Oh Tiff, these are beautiful! I wish I could be as good at photography as you are.
See? See? If you don’t feel good now, I will come over and shout it in your ear!
I could have told you that you are photographer material. They’re beautiful.
my goodness woman! why do you doubt yourself???? you so get this! you pictures are wonderful. now how can i get you to the states to take pictures of my gang?????
I am a photographer. I have that same voice *everytime* I’m headed to a client to take photographs. I had to tell it AGAIN this morning to ‘SHUT THE HELL UP’ on my way to do a photoshoot at a kindergarten.
I can honestly tell you that I think your photographs are wonderful. Your photography style will develop with each photoshoot you do. You will literally look back and be amazed at yourself how far you’ve come. I reckon your starting point is a pretty awesome place to be starting from!!!!
A little self doubt is good I actually believe, helps us push on.
You are good enough, no doubt at all.
Love them! LOVE LOVE LOVE the one with baby on top of the blankets!
Wow, they are just fantastic, some of the most beautiful baby pics I’ve seen xoxo
Oh my God, Tiff, these are so beautiful! Will you come take some photos of US?! She’s a very pretty baby, too.
They are fantastic pictures. If I lived closer I would absolutely pay you to photograph mine.
You HAVE done it. No questions now about whether you can do it – you have done it. They are gorgeous. Like you. And if all goes well, can you take some of a very special and already loved newborn, who will be arriving early May 2010? I can’t think of anyone else that I would want to take photos of our new baby. Yep, I said it. Our new baby… xxx
I know exactly how you feel TIff. Exactly.
You are a photographer. I am a ceramic artist.
Our dead fathers can both go and get fucked.
Those are gorgeous photo’s. You most certainly do it!
Absolutely gorgeous, but I wouldn’t expect anything less. You have an incredible talent, tell that awful little voice in your mind to “shut up” – YOU DID IT AND THEY ARE AMAZING!!!!! BTW, very cute baby! Love the one on the blanket pile especially. Can’t wait til I can bring my kid to you for pics. Hugs and love from cold rainy Chicago!
Just maybe? Absolutely definitely. In fact I am gobsmacked you haven’t been a professional photographer for years… I had always thought you were from your gorgeous pics on here!
You are _completely_ photographer material.
“Follow your heart in all that you do, and it won’t be too long ‘fore they start coming true!”
As always… stunning work.
Sometimes those pesky old voices in our heads are merely hurdles we were meant to overcome. I say keep doing the amazing photography you’re already doing and soon the voices of doubt will be forgotten. These pics are gorgeous and I tried to pick a favorite but could not.
Dear Tiff,
I have my first newborn shoot coming up next Saturday. I am riddled with self-doubt. To the point of almost being sick to my stomach. I want this so bad, but just don’t believe in myself or my talents. Yet. I am a work in progress. I look at those beautiful photos and think….if only. If only I could produce photos half as good as those. They are works of art. I am so proud of you and I have never even met you. No more doubting yourself because you have “it”. You just do. Take that breath now….you have done it. You have proven it (not that you ever needed to) but you have anyway. Congratulations! Now, keep on going! More! More! More!
I was just flicking through the archives looking for another post I want to link to, but I had to comment even if it is very late and say that they are gorgeous. I would adore photos of my baby like that!
They are beautiful! Make me wish I’d gotten it together to have a photographer take photos of my munchkin when she was a baby ;o)
