Baby bedhogs.

sleepingboy.JPG

Ooooooh, my aching back.

How much longer will I be sharing my bed with these baby bedhogs?

This morning, at 4am, Noah rolled over and pushed me to the very edge of my bed. As he did, he sang;

“There were five (there were three) in the bed and the little one said roll over (roll over)”!

I sang; “So they all rolled over and the little one fell out”. (Hint hint, you spring loaded child).

To which he laughed and said;

“No – ho – ho, Mummy that doesn’t  happen”.

Silly me, of course, that’s not what happens.

In reality the Mummy gets pushed to the edge and ejected in the small hours of the morning or squashed into the middle of the bed all night long, frozen in one position, only to wake up at 4am stiff and cold.

My mantra for today?

Toddler bedhogs grow up to be teenagers one day and sharing a bed will be deemed uncool.

*sigh*

I mean

*zzzzzzzzzz*

    Oh no, bedhogs!!!!!!!!! Hope they discover sooner rather than later that sleeping in Mummy’s bed is very uncool. I am amazed that you are awake enough to have a conversation with Noah at 4am – the best you’d get out of me would be a few grunts and then back to sleep.

    My daughter used to do the same thing – but to her Dad. He was not happy when he had the edge of the King size bed and plenty of room in the middle. She just wanted to be close to him :)

    Sounds like it would almost be worth sneaking into his bed while he is in yours.

    ackk I can’t sleep with little people in my bed.!!
    can you get into his bed???

    I know what you mean. bubs is in bed with us, and often we have a little louse sneak in and snuggle up behind me or Hub.
    Some nights I don’t notice and have a great nights sleep, and others are not so great. Waking up with a sore back from eing squashed, lol

    But as you said toddlers grow up, and too soon our children will be in their own beds all the time and all that is left is the wonderful memory of when they were little. Snuggling up and feling safe with Mummy and Daddy.

    Not sure how I managed this, but mine never crawled into my bed unless the sun was already up.

    Hi, Tiff! I also blog over at 5 Minutes for Special Needs. I loved the photo you put up today (and the captions)! I so relate to this post. My kids—Max, 6 and Sabrina, 4—are both sleeping with us. It started because Max had seizures at birth, and when we got home from the hospital I had to keep an eagle-eye on him, so he’d sleep next to him. We eventually got him sleeping in his own bed, but then our little girl was born and then she went into a day bed and realized she could walk out anytime she pleased and so, they’ve both basically been in our bed for 2 years. As Hands and Hearts Full says above, sometimes it is delicious to have them there. But, every single night is getting to be too much. We need an intervention!

    lol, that is so very cute! I have a little bedhog myself. We have a huge king sized bed, and every single night either my husband or I end get pushed out. I’ve been working on a post about it, coming soon. =)

    Rod? Meet Back. Toughen up, woman!

    LOL that sounds familiar. I can’t wait to sleep without being squashed

    I hear you, sister! I have a 4 year old bedhog myself. How one little being can take up a whole queen size bed defies the laws of physics, I think. I’m starting with “big boys don’t sleep with their mothers”, but for now, he’s not buying it. He says, “OK, when I’m 5″, so I have at least 7 more months to look forward to teetering on the edge of the bed while he headbuts me because “he wants to share my pillow”. But, secretly I love having him snuggle up next to me, so when the time comes, we will BOTH need to get used to it :)

    We were very lucky – it only happened if there were nightmares or sickness involved. Of course, hubs thought it was unacceptable any time – period. We’d send HIM packing to the couch, because yeah, I think nightmares, and sickness, are both reasons deserving to be snuggled in Mom’s bed. :-)

    And why are their elbows so pointy and sharp??

  • I have a baby Bed Hog too, and there is only two in the bed and the big one still gets pushed right to the edge and wakes up with a sore back, and pins and needles in her hand all day! :)

    I remember a time when my kids would come running into our room and squeeze themselves between me an Annie. Eventually, they DID learn that that’s a VERY dangerous place to be.

    Awe! That sweet little face with that dimple? Send him my way.

    Now I’ve got that song stuck in my head!
